Killing their past with the alternate costume equipped unlocks an alternate starting weapon skin. Alternate costumes are located next to the starting character. Each Gungeoneer, excluding the Paradox and the Gunslinger, has an alternate costume, unlocked by killing their past. Choose between one of several unlikely heroes, each burdened by a deep regret and in search of a way to change their past, no matter the cost. The Gungeoneers are the characters who explore The Gungeon. You will find these weapons in chests (2 per floor) that you will open using keys, themselves obtainable by buying them in shops or by finding them after defeating all the enemies in a room. You start the game with 191 weapons already unlocked, but you can add up to 249 to your catalog by completing missions and quests, or buying them from merchants that you also unlock.
